SEO / AI Visibility
As AI chatbots and AI-powered search summaries (like Google's AI Overviews) become a meaningful discovery channel alongside traditional search results, a new category of tools has emerged to track whether — and how — a brand appears in those AI-generated answers. These platforms monitor the prompts and questions people ask AI systems, show which of those prompts surface a brand's content, and report on referral traffic coming from AI assistants in a way similar to how analytics tools report on organic search traffic. This is sometimes called 'AI visibility,' 'answer engine optimization,' or 'generative engine optimization' (GEO), and it sits alongside — rather than replaces — traditional SEO, since ranking well in classic search still influences whether AI systems cite a page. Marketing teams use this category to understand a newer, harder-to-measure traffic source, benchmark against competitors' AI-answer presence, and identify content gaps that stop a brand from being cited as an authoritative source. It's an early but fast-growing area, so tooling and terminology are still evolving.
