4. Generative AI Assistants & Chatbots
General-purpose generative AI assistants - ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot (365), and Google Gemini - are increasingly used directly by PMO staff for drafting artefacts (charters, RAID logs, business cases, RFPs, status reports), summarizing large documents, structuring risk registers, and reasoning through governance or prioritization questions. Unlike the PM-specific platforms above, these are horizontal tools not purpose-built for project management, but their flexibility, large context windows, and (in Microsoft's case) deep integration with Office/Teams/Planner make them a practical layer that sits on top of, or alongside, dedicated PMO software. Many organizations now standardize on one of these as the 'default assistant' available inside email, documents, and chat, with PMO-specific tools layered on top for structured project data.
